Kurt Fearnley Crawls Kokoda

An Extraordinary Journey.
An Extraordinary Example of What Is Possible.

When others saw limitations, Kurt Fearnley saw a challenge.

In 2009, three-time Paralympic gold medallist Kurt Fearnley took on one of the most extraordinary challenges ever attempted on the Kokoda Track.

He crawled it.

Led by Belief. Driven by Purpose.

Led and supported by Wayne Wetherall and Kokoda Spirit, Kurt crossed the rugged mountains, rivers, mud and jungle of Kokoda in support of Movember.

Already one of Australia’s greatest athletes, Kurt had conquered marathons around the world, including victories in New York, London and Chicago.

But Kokoda demanded something entirely different.

No Wheelchair. No Smooth Surface. No Conventional Way Forward.

For days, Kurt used his hands, arms and extraordinary determination to make his way across some of the most unforgiving terrain in Papua New Guinea.

It remains one of the most remarkable demonstrations of resilience, trust and human determination we have witnessed on Kokoda.

Extraordinary performance begins when people stop focusing on what cannot be done and start finding a way forward.

In Kurt’s Words

“The one thing I knew, though, was that if I did return it would be with Wayne. He had taken the time to listen, to look and to talk to me in the lead-up to this amazing adventure.

He had invested time in getting to know me and had even been in New York to support me during the Marathon.

It is amazing the power that comes from one person showing unreserved belief in another. That’s what Wayne did for me, and without him I could not have undertaken the Kokoda Track.”

Belief. Trust. Resilience.

Kurt’s Kokoda crossing wasn’t about proving how tough one person could be.

It was about preparation. Adaptability. Trust. Teamwork. And the extraordinary things that become possible when people believe in each other.

Those principles remain at the heart of every Kokoda Elite program.

Shared Effort. Shared Belief.

Kurt’s journey was never a solo act. It was made possible through disciplined preparation, trusted leadership and a team willing to adapt when the conventional path did not exist.

That is the same foundation behind Kokoda Elite today — private programs built on belief, trust and resilience under real conditions.

Elite teams are not built in comfort.

Kokoda Elite

Kurt’s crossing remains a powerful reminder of what becomes possible when leadership is grounded in belief and teams refuse to accept limits.

That spirit continues through every private Kokoda Elite program we deliver.

Challenge with purpose. Performance through adversity.
